When the mind is ill
When the mind suffers, the body can also become ill. Stress, anger and anxiety can interfere with the mental balance and trigger physical symptoms.
Our Centre for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy diagnoses and treats diseases in which psychological factors play an important role. The clinic is located on a lake called Grosser Segeberger See and consists of an acute department and a rehabilitation department. Our goal is integrated medical treatment, in which the somatic, psychological and social problems of patients are given equal attention.
Emergency medical treatment or rehabilitation
Our 35-strong team of psychological and medical psychotherapists represent various schools ranging from psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy to behavioural therapy and counselling. All disorders in the field of psychosomatic medicine are examined and treated. Hospital stays usually last four to eight weeks, either for emergency inpatient treatment or rehabilitation. The clinic offers childcare, so that even mothers and fathers who cannot be separated from their children can be given inpatient care. One of the clinic’s specialities is the treatment of psychosomatic disorders among Turkish immigrants (in their native language).
Interdisciplinary treatment
Our treatment concept takes the whole person into account. In addition to the psychotherapeutic assessment, the full range of diagnostic technology from every department at the Segeberger Kliniken is available as needed, including ultrasound, cardiac catheterisation, magnetic resonance and computed tomography. From the results of the diagnosis, a comprehensive treatment plan is compiled for each patient individually, taking physical, mental and social problems into account. If there is physical illness, these can be treated as part of our integrated approach, and with the involvement of doctors from the hospital group if necessary. When choosing individual or group psychotherapy, we take care to ensure there is the right personal chemistry between therapist and patient (differential indication).
